From Healing, A Calling
In 2020, Jan created the Artful Meditation workshop series as a way to heal from the trauma of surviving breast cancer. Each Silk Bloom arrangement she made at her kitchen table brought her immense joy and carried her through the five-year cancer journey that began in 2018.
That experience inspired her to advocate for herself and for older adults and seniors facing trauma. She learned that persistence can turn challenges into growth.
"Persistence can change failure into extraordinary achievement."
Her love of flowers led her to develop flower arranging and artful crafts, which she began sharing as a ministry of hope and healing through creativity. She has learned that positive aging and longevity are not things to fear, but to embrace — welcoming new experiences and environments while remaining flexible and grateful has turned her passion into purpose.
As she enters her sixth year of serving older adults and seniors in Boston, Artful Meditation Workshops continue to grow with the support of volunteers, donors, funders, and community partners — including The Age Strong Commission and the Grimes King Foundation.
Together, we are creating new opportunities for older adults to connect socially, learn new skills, reduce isolation, and build confidence that supports better health — empowering them to lead change as they live longer.
In 2026, we continue to offer artful craft workshops, build collaborative relationships with senior housing providers, community organizations, and senior social groups. We invite you to watch our video "Making Art Fun for Seniors" on YouTube.
It is never too late to try new things. May Artful Meditation Workshops challenge negative stereotypes about aging, and may you keep moving, find your purpose, and let it guide you through these Senior Bloom years.
